Apollo and Daphne ابولو ودافني
Greek era
This piece takes inspiration from the mythical tale of Daphne, a captivating story of love and the subconscious mind. According to legends, the mighty Apollo, having defeated Python, dared to challenge the god of love, Eros. In response, Eros, displeased by Apollo's audacity, shot arrows at both Apollo and Daphne. The first arrow made "Apollo" fall in love with "Daphne", and the second fell into the heart of "Daphne" and made her immune to love. Apollo’s attempt to win Daphne’s love became exhausting to her, and so she asked to be saved, which was by turning her into a bay leaf tree. Since then, Apollo began wearing a crown of tree branches on his head. Over time, Apollo became the guardian of athletic games and crowned the winners with laurel wreaths. The laurel wreath has since become a symbol of victory and excellence. The history of this piece dates back to the period from 332 BCE to 64 BCE in Tyre.
